The problem with this type of packaging is that it is a mixed material of paper, foil and plastic bonded together which makes it difficult to recycle. It would be best to check with your local council. At the time of writing Christchurch Council and Auckland Council (excluding Rodney, North Shore and Waitakere) are the only councils accepting cardboard cartons for recycling in New Zealand.   Cartons such as the 1 litre milk cartons do make good seedling trays however when cut in half and holes punched in the bottom. If you don’t want them for this purpose your friends or family might. If you’re in Christchurch Tree’s for Canterbury could be keen as well.
