More and more courier and mail services are offering an alternative to plastic courier bags, through making available cardboard envelopes and boxes made from recycled paper. NZ Couriers have such envelopes for documents while CourierPost have envelopes, boxes and tubes made from 100% recycled paper and they cost no more than their standard packaging. When we are sending fragile items domestically to family or friends we have used popped corn as a packing material. It works really well and can be composted at the other end. Use masking tape instead of cellotape, so that it can be put in the paper recycling along with the envelope or package. A little gem that can save 1.5 trees per person per year is a ‘no junk mail’ or ‘no circulars’ sign on your letterbox. Look into having your utility and bank bills sent to you through email rather than post.
